A trip to Austria would not be complete without having visited the capital city of the federal state of Tyrol, Innsbruck. This city is beautifully located in the Inn river valley and is surrounded by the magnificent Tyrolean Alps with its many ski resorts. Innsbruck looks back to a long history and to two Olympic Winter Games.
Close to Innsbruck is the small town of Wattens, the home of the Swarovski crystal factory with the museum “Crystal World of Swrovskiâ€. It is one of the most famous museums of Austria and visitors from all over the world are enchanted by this beautiful kind of crystal craftmanship and its visual effects.
Starting from Salzburg our way leads us westwards through the Tyrolean Alps and past the renowned “ Wilde Kaiser†mountain range to the town of Wattens, where you have the opportunity to visit the crystal museum. From there we continue our trip to the charming old town of Innsbruck with its pedestrian zone. There you will see many historical sights, like the city´s landmark, the golden roof, the imperial palace of the former royal family Habsburg, the church of court (Hofkirche), the triumphal arch etc. Additionally you can visit either the Ambras castle, the big ski jump or the so-called Hungerburg viewpoint high above Innsbruck, from where you have a stunning view down to the city and the Inn river valley.
Before we drive back to Salzburg you will certainly have the time to have some good Tyrolean lunch in one of the typical Tyrolean restaurants in the city. Our return trip follows the motorway along the Inn river valley via Rosenheim back to Salzburg. |
