Experience a full day in Munich, the cosmopolitan city with heart and the capital of the Free State of Bavaria. With a population of 1,4 million Munich is certainly a big and modern city, nevertheless it has kept up its old customs and traditions like the famous beer festival, the Oktoberfest, and it is particularly known for its friendly and relaxed atmosphere. For a long time Munich was the seat of the Bavarian Kings, who left their traces by building a lot of historical sights in and around the city. Furthermore Munich was the host of the Olympic Summer Games in 1972 and is also known for the car manufacturer BMW and the Bavaria Film Studios.
Leaving Salzburg westwards, we will drive through beautiful Bavarian countryside and charming villages with its onion shaped dome churches, past Lake Chiemsee until we arrive in the city of Munich. We will directly drive to the historical centre, where you will see the landmark of Munich, the cathedral “Church of our ladyâ€, the city hall with its famous Glockenspiel at Marienplatz (St. Mary´s square), the residence of the Bavarian kings, the traditional market “Viktualienmarkt†etc. In Munich´s huge pedestrian area you find plenty of typical Bavarian restaurants with beergardens and also a lot of nice shopping places. A real “must†is the visit of the famous Hofbräuhaus, the world´s biggest beer place.
On our tour you also have the opportunity to visit either the “Nymphenburg palaceâ€, which used to be the summer residence of the Bavarian kings, the BMW museum in the Olympic Park, the Bavaria Film Studios or the concentration camp Dachau. The return trip follows the motorway directly back to Salzburg.
